How to Update Galaxy S2 GT I9100 with Official XXLQ5 ICS 4.0.4 Firmware

Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 may have waited a lot when it came to getting latest ICS Android 4.0.4 release, but you no longer will have to wait for this release as a Stock firmware of ICS 4.0.4 has been leaked out Worldwide and is officially out for UK. Please note that this build of firmware which is dubbed as ICS 4.0.4 XXLQ5, as of now there is no estimated official release date of Jellybean 4.0.4 for S2 but as in when it arrives, we will keep you posted on the same. Unfortunately, as of now there are still no leaks of Jellybean 4.1 for Samsung Galaxy S II GT I9100 model. This is the first ever ICS 4.0.4 firmware which is being coming out. Though all the things in this firmware works perfectly, there might be some minor bugs. You can list all the bugs which you encounter in your device after applying in the comments section below as we will try our level best to address the same. For your convenience, we have also mentioned some of the screen captures on how this ICS 4.0.4 firmware will look like in your Galaxy S II.

Data in your Galaxy S2 might get corrupted or erased. So , ensure that with the help of below mentioned steps, you are backing up all the data present so that, the data can be easily restored.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log -Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Enable the USB Debugging from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” and also you will have to ensure that the minimum battery life should be 50% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of update.

Procedure to Update Galaxy S II with ICS 4.0.4 Firmware Update:
  • Download the ICS 4.0.4 XXLQ5 Package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, extract the same along with odin in your computer. From extracted folder, open Odin in your computer and turn Off your phone so that it can be then entered in the download mode.

  • Download mode in Galaxy S II GT I9100 can be entered by pressing Volume down Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button after which a green robot will be shown indicating the Download Mode has been entered.

  • Connect your S II I9100G to the computer while keeping Odin opened, once connected you will see that the ID : COM section is turned Yellow indicating that all the drivers have been installed successfully.

Note: If ID : COM section doesn’t turn Yellow, you need to check with two things which are mentioned below,
  • Install the USB Drivers in your computer &
  • Go to the Path “Settings > Wireless & Network > USB Settings” and ensure that “Samsung KIES” option is ticked before connecting the phone to the computer.
  • Click on the below mentioned corresponding options in odin and click on “Start” to start the process of firmware update.

  • As soon as the device is updated successfully, the device will be restarted. As soon as you see the home screen or language preference setting options, you can then disconnect the device and turn Off the device in the recovery mode.
  • Recovery mode in Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 can be entered by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, turn ON your device.
  • In recovery mode, select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” for clearing out all the cache data present in your device. Once it’s done, select “reboot system now”. As soon as the device is rebooted, you can check the same whether the firmware update has been applied or not from the path “Settings > About phone > Firmware version” where it will be mentioned as XXLQ5.
Note: Just in a rare case if the device is not updated and it gets into the boot loop mode, you need to again clear the cache from the recovery mode and retry the whole process from the start.
So there you go, you have now successfully applied the update of ICS 4.0.4 firmware in your device.
